A Description Of Some Important Guitar Parts

 Headstock

This part of the guitar called the headstock is at the end of the neck opposite to its body. Generally the headstock is used to support the tuning pegs wich are used to tighten the strings.
Headstocks come in many different shapes depending on the guitar type and brand. The brand of the guitar is usually displayed on the headstock.

 Frets or Fretboard
Frets are the ridges or bars that sit on the fingerboard or the neck of the guitar. When we depress the string with our fingers at the metal part of the bar it will change the pitch of the note. These frets are arranged on the guitar to produce specific pitches.

Machineheads

The machine heads are also known as tuning pegs and are found at the headstock of the guitar. Their purpose is to tighten or loosen the strings on your guitar. We tighten and loosen strings so that we can tune the guitar to our desired pitch.

Bridge

This part of the guitar is found down on the body. The bridges function is to hold the guitar strings in place, it also transmits the string vibrations to the top of the guitar to the intruments pickups or soundboards. Acoustic guitars usually have wooden bridges and electric guitars have metal ones.

The First Lesson With Jamorama

We decided to go for the online guitar lessons because buying a DVD set would mean that we would actually have to look after it. Doing this kind of thing online gives you the ease of mind that you can log in and practice whenever and wherever you are, as long as you have a computer and Internet access.

Looking for an online guitar course was pretty easy, I mean, Jamorama was the only one that didn't promise me I would be shredding my guitar like a pro within one week. Seriously there are some whacked out sites promising naive people miracles. We had to be realistic in choosing a site that is honest about the processes of learning something as intricate as a guitar. There were a lot of sites promising way to much way to soon. Eventually we decided on Jamorama's online guitar course and signed up for their first six Free lessons.

We are still busy with the first lesson but I think we both have a firm grasp of the A and D chords now. The only obstacle is changing From A to D smoothly and without looking at the fret board. Whenever we practice I can definitely see an improvement in both of us as things become easier and more comfortable. I am totally amped to move on to lesson two but I think we will only be doing so in a day or two. As soon as we do there will be a posts from the both of us =D

Jamorama Guitar Lessons Online

Learning guitar has always been something I have wanted to try but never seemed to be able to fit it into my shedule. Chelley my partner and I decided to learn it together as a sort of fun experiment and as a motivational incentive we are going to be blogging about our experience with Jamorama's online guitar lessons. So as we learn we will be posting our progress online for the world to see and hopefully inspire a few budding artists to pick up an instrument and join in the fun and excitement of music.

Our guitar and musical background only extends as far as how to pick up and hold a guitar in the proper position. Hopefully with good time spent using Jamorama online guitar lessons this will all soon change. In a perfect world Chelley claims to want to be a rock super star!!!  but we will settle for just being able to play a few tunes together for ourselves and our friends.

So join us on our little musical adventure.

The Journey Begins

This will not be the first time I attempt to learn to play guitar, however it will be my first time using an online guitar lesson system. I have taken one on one lessons and watched tutorial DVDs, but only manage to stay motivated for about a week before my enthusiasm fizzles. It is not that I lack the aptitude, but rather the patience required to learn.

I come from a musical background and have always envied family members that seem to effortlessly master any instrument they pick up. I have been singing since I could talk and have always wanted to be able to accompany myself on guitar. This is what I'm hoping to achieve by using the Jamorama online guitar lessons.

After stumbling upon the Jamorama website, we signed up for their free introductory course. This is made up of six free lessons after which we should be able to strum a basic tune. We will keep posting and keep you up to date with our progress.

Watch this space, because if I can do it, anyone can! :)
